Metin Tuncay is one of the best, and to get to this standard and be talked about is such high regard takes a lot of time effort and experience. These are things that Metin is not short of.
The Past:
Metin started his training over 25 years ago in various styles including taekwondo, kung fu, and later concentrating on Kyokushin Karate. After studying these styles for 6 years Metin started to teach students himself, and it was at this point, his instructors showed great interest in a new style called Ashihara and were keen to adopt this new and exciting style.
Metin left to travel the world in his early twenties and continued to train hard and perfect his skills. It was at this point, while living in Switzerland that he came across an instructional video that had come from Japan outlining the techniques and principles of Ashihara Karate. Within months Metin was so passionate about this style that he packed his bags and headed for Japan.
On arriving in Japan Metin discarded his black belt and started his training again from scratch. Although your average man would not be comfortable wearing a white belt after achieving a black belt in another style, Metin is no ‘average man’. He took this as a challenge and proceeded to train 5 days a week, often twice a day. Having experience in other styles and through sheer grit and determination, Metin was awarded his black belt in around 15 months by none other than the man himself Kancho Ashihara.
The Present:
Now 40 years old, and a keen family man, Metin’s enthusiasm for teaching has never left him
Metin is now based in Edinburgh, is still training hard and has achieved the honorable grade of 4th Dan. As well as teaching 5 adult classes and numerous kids classes per week, Metin finds time to help others better themselves and achieve goals through personal fitness training.
Over the years Metin’s teaching skills have surpassed that of any normal instructor and can use his wisdom to easily show the practicality of any technique so that anyone can understand. This helps with beginners and advanced students alike.
Metin progressively works people harder and harder according to their ability and grade, pushing people to their full potential at all times.
Metin is a Ashihara branch chief and is the main examiner and Instructor for the Lothian Region.
